What? What do you mean declare war on the UN?
well, it is like this, IDF troops and shells targeted both UN workers and facilities in several occasions!
UNRWA, as Wikipedia would describe it,
“United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is a relief and human development agency, providing education, health care, social services and emergency aid to over four hundred thousand Palestine refugees living in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, as well as in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It is the only agency dedicated to helping refugees from a specific region or conflict. It is separate from UNHCR,[1] the UN Refugee Agency, which is the only other UN agency aiding refugees, dedicated to aiding all refugees in the world”
It is under the umbrella of the United Nations, and yet the IDF targeted three facilities belonging to UNRWA three times.
- First incident was Al Fakhoura School in Jabaliya on 6 January 2009, by shelling the school sheltering a number of the refugees who were forced to leave their houses looking for a safe shelter away from the continuous air strikes, artillery shells and sea assults. In that incident, at least 42 palastenians were killed, as usual, Israel used it’s off shelf excuse that HAMAS were firing mortars from the school vicinity, but later on this theory was blasted away by a statement from the UNRWA officials themselves that they did not see any HAMAS activities before this Israeli attack.
CNN Interview between
Chris Gunness “We are 99.9% certain that there are no militants at that school when this instant took place ”
- Later the same month, on January 15 2009, IDF shelled another UNRWA facility with White Phosphorus Shells (a weapon capable of setting vast areas in fire and would not be set off with water, it was discovered later that sand would help set it off, note that usage White Phosphorus on civilian populated areas is banned), which is the UNRWA compound itself in Gaza city.it resulted in damage of UNRWA headquarters in Gaza and at least three people were wounded. Add to that the fire that spread in the store containing tons of humanitarian supplies.
